The way Laura Nowlin uses fall metaphors throughout the narrative to represent the character development is masterfully done, and don't even get me started on that tiara scene which perfectly captures how fragile adolescent hopes can be - seriously this book deserves way more discussion in high school curriculums because the themes of regret and alternative realities connect deeply with every person who's felt that painful awareness of timing shaping our most important relationships.
