Recently completed reading If He Had Been With Me and I'm absolutely blown away by the symbolism throughout the story - the fall metaphors is
incredibly meaningful and represents Autumn's coming of age story perfectly, while the symbolic tiara absolutely destroyed me because it embodies her
unrealized potential and the alternate reality with Finny, plus the way Nowlin uses seasonal changes to predict the heartbreaking finale is masterful
writing that transforms this from a basic love story into a profound exploration of destiny and loss - has anyone else noticed how the recurring
motifs of cycles throughout the novel connect to the theme that we're bound by our circumstances and cannot break free from the roads we choose?
