Just finished diving into "If He Had Been With Me" by Laura Nowlin for my YA book club and wow the symbolism in this YA romance are so layered - the
seasonal symbolism embedded in every chapter brilliantly reflects Autumn's character development from childhood to adulthood, and don't even get me
going about the princess metaphor which represents her lost childhood - have you all noticed how Nowlin incorporates these consistent themes to
examine themes of what-if scenarios, young relationships, and the tragic inevitability that haunts the entire plot - this novel definitely deserves a
thorough literary examination because there's so much more beneath the surface than most readers initially realize.
